      Charles William Evers

      A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Charles William Evers at 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church. Father Charles Borho will officiate. Private interment is planned in St. James Catholic Cemetery. There is no visitation. The son of William and Catherine Hermens Evers, he started working on the family farm after schools and raised turkeys for many years. He was one of the originators of the Turkey Rama celebration in McMinnville. Mr. Evers married Ann Ellen Cantlon on June 7, 1945 at St. James Catholic Church. In addition to the church. he was a member of the Turkey Growers Association, serving on its board of directors, and was long active in Boy Scouts leadership.

      He enjoyed fishing and spending his winters in Tulsa, Arizonia. He traveled extensively throughout the world. His family spoke of him as a great father and wonderful grandfather who took in other family members to work on the farm.

      Mr. Evers is survived by his wife Ann; two daughters, Claudia Evers, Oregon City and Mary Anne Fernandez, Tampa, Florida; two sons, Gerald Evers, Dayton, and Lawrence Evers, Portland; a brother, Raymond Evers, Eugene; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Memorial contributions can be made to St. James Catholic Church in care of Macy & Son funeral directors.
