    Kaukauna - Jerome "Jerry" Hartjes, 79, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on August 12, 1941 to Willard and Helen (Vandenberg) Hartjes. On September 13, 1960 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart at St. John in Little Chute. He was a carpenter and craftsman and made many items that people have in their homes. Many of those items will be cherished by his family members. He enjoyed snowmobling (and taught for the DNR), motorcycling and in his later years triking. Jerry built his own trike. He and his son Tim bowled in many leagues over the years. Jerry found his faith in God again through Mark and Carol Farrell. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, spending time with them was always special. Jerry is now in heaven with his best friend Mike and they are riding their trikes from cloud to cloud.

    Jerry is survived by his wife Janice of 59 years, his children; Keith Hartjes, Wendy (Chris) Bentheimer, Tim (Jill) Hartjes, Tammy (special friend Kevin) Blair, grandchildren; Justin Hartjes, Amanda (special friend Jeff) Merkel, Krista (Andrew) Bainbridge, Katlin Hartjes, Zack Hartjes, Anna Hartjes, Kelcey (special friend Blake) Cullen, great grandchildren; Natalie and Madison, a sister Joyce Leintz, special puppies Sadie and Bella, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Brittney, his in-laws Ves Sanderfoot and Naomi Chambless, a brother Marv Hartjes, sister-in-law Pat Hartjes and a brother-in-law Alois Leintz.

    The funeral liturgy for Jerry will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.verkuilenfh.com. The service will be livestreamed at the Verkuilen Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home Facebook page.
