Bastian, Howard
Howard Howie A. Bastian, 64, Abrams, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 18, 1944, in Marinette, to the late Edward and Martha (Joosten) Bastian. Howie graduated from Coleman High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966. After discharge, he married his soul mate, Patricia Matuszewski, on Oct. 26, 1968. They recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.
Howie was a Journeyman Machinist at Magna Graphics, Nicolet Paper (B Crew) and Mecca. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Peters Concrete as a scale tender and at the Pensaukee Recycling Center. He truly enjoyed all the people he met through Peters and the recycling center.
To know Howie was to love him. He always had a smile and a quick one-liner for everyone. His engaging friendliness and optimistic outlook gained him many friends. His mantra through his battle with cancer was, Whatever it takes.
Howie is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Eric (Shelley) Bastian; daughter, Kelly (Shane) Gritt; grandson, Chev Bastian; step-granddaughter, Chantel Grosso; step-great-grandson, D.J. Revolinski III; sister, Dorie (Sid) Davidson; brothers, Bob (Pat) Bastian, Norm (Diana) Bastian; brother-in-law, G. Buster (Berta) Matuszewski; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Jerry Schultz) Revolinski, Terri (Mike) VanDomelen; mother-in-law, Arlene Matuszewski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha Bastian; sister and brother-in-law, Bev and John Minzlaff; father-in-law, Leo Matuszewski; and brother-in-law, Greg Stodola.
Friends may call at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 1253 Cty. J, Little Suamico, from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the church, Pastor Solveig A.H. Zamzow officiating. Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski is serving the Bastian family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Howies name.
