    Notes
    • Laren passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, in Myrtle Creek. He was born December 24, 1944 in Roseburg.

He lived his first ten years in Camas Valley before the family moved to Myrtle Creek where he resided the rest of his life. Laren graduated from Myrtle Creek High School in 1963. After attending college in Klamath Falls and Bend, Laren worked at Roseburg Forest Products, Plant #4 for 37 years. He was a proud member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union and always enjoyed the camaraderie of his co-workers, even after he retired.

Laren was always physically active and accomplished as a marathon bicyclist, sometimes riding from Roseburg to Diamond Lake and back. When not riding bikes, he enjoyed working out at Oregon South Fitness Club. He had been a member of the Umpqua Valley Timber Cruisers, a local 4 wheel drive club, and the Myrtle Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Laren especially enjoyed outdoor activities in the Bend and Sunriver areas.

Laren had a unique mechanical aptitude and loved maintaining his vehicles in tip-top shape. He was disappointed if he could not wash his car at least once a week.

What brought Laren great satisfaction was his involvement with The Encounter Church in Canyonville. Laren was involved with many aspects of the church and was always willing to jump in and lend a hand. He especially enjoyed his friendship with Pastor Larry Gatlin and the many activities they did together.

Laren is survived by his sister Kathi Halloran (Bill Siling) of Winchester, Oregon and brother Dr Leon Halloran (Dr. Doug Taron) of Elgin, Illinois; children Penny Vanderhoef of Roseburg, Patrick Gillespie (Mindy) of Bend, and Shannon Houston(Sam) of Bend; niece Taylor Siling; grandchildren Zoey Vanderhoef, Porter and Wyatt Houston, and Elliott and Owen Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Marion Halloran.

There will be a celebration of life at The Encounter Church, 301 N. Main, in Canyonville on Friday, March 31st at 3:00 PM. Reception to follow.
