    • John DeGroot, pioneer settler, died at the age of 65 at his home, 1356 Main Street, this morning. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. He was born in the town of Harrison in 1855 and moved to Bay Settlement in 1858. In 1881 he moved into Green Bay to take up the blacksmith trade on Main Street. One year later he married Miss Anna Rupel of Montpellier, Wis."

      John DeGroot was born on February 12, 1855 in the town of Harrison, Calumet County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Henrieus (Henry) DeGroot and Huberdine Van Rooy from the Netherlands. His family moved to Bay Settlement in 1858, and in 1881 he moved into Green Bay to take up the blacksmith trade. One year later John married Anna Roppel of Montpelier, Wisconsin on May 16, 1882 in Eaton, Wisconsin.
