    • Valentyne, Sandra L.

Sandie L. Valentyne, age 73, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home. Sandie was the oldest child, born to Genevieve H. (Olson) Boehme and Sylvester A. Boehme.

Sandie was born and spent most of her life in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Appleton (West) Senior High School and attended the University of Wisconsin Center-Fox Valley. She was married to David Kielgas in 1960 and had her only child, Cheryl "Sherri" (Kielgas) Gartzke. In 1970 she married David Valentyne to whom she remained married to until her death.

Sandie had a love of sewing, which translated into her "career" as the Chief Seamstress for the family, spending lots of her time doing alterations, making curtains and shortening pants. She also was the main chef for holiday family gatherings. Sandie was the hostess of most Thanksgivings and she and Dave opened their home for many Christmas Day meals and other holiday gatherings over the years. Sandie had a passion for reading, loved her flowers in her yard, and donating to the casinos. Sandie and Dave had many pets over the years, including Raleigh, who still shares their home.

Sandie was involved in short-track stock car racing with Dave for many years and spent many nights at local race tracks including Thursday nights at Wisconsin International Raceway supporting the Fox River Racing Club (FRRC).

Sandie's professional career included many years at Giddings and Lewis-Bickford, and Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Associates from where she eventually retired. She and Dave then spent their winters in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Sandie was preceded in death by her parents.

Sandie is survived by her husband Dave, loving daughter Sherri and son-in-law Michael Gartzke; two special grandchildren Jeremy and Rachel Gartzke; sister Nancy (Jerry "JJ") Smith; nieces Julie (Christian) Barr and Jolie (David) VerVoort, Jr. and their kids McKenna and Maverick.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Dennis (Jan) Valentyne, sister-in-law Meri (Lari) DeBruin, and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the caregivers who were instrumental in Sandie's care, especially Theda Care at Home Hospice.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Fox Valley Humane Society or the American Cancer Society .
