Dennis (Denny) Van Vreede, age 74 of Freedom, WI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 28, 2024. He was born May 1, 1950, son of the late Floyd and Catherine (Gilbert) Van Vreede. Denny married the love of his life Chris on June 21, 1973 and they celebrated 51 beautiful years together.

Denny was a farmer through and through. He devoted his life to his family and community. Through his values he learned over the years, he was a humble and able steward of compassion and aid for his neighbors at any time they were in need. He also loved to help the people and the youth of the Freedom community through being one of the founding members of the Freedom FFA Alumni along with a long-time member of the Freedom Lions Club where his desire of helping others was on full display. He spent many years as a supervisor on the town board for the town of Kaukauna as a trusted voice for the community. His humor, love of his family and friends could never be measured, could never be wavered and only in death could be stopped on this Earth. He always had time for a friend and a story and could entertain someone for hours with tales of the experiences he had over his blessed life and this will be missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Chris Van Vreede (Rasmussen); three children: Mike (Tiffany)Van Vreede, Chad (Carri) Van Vreede, Rachel (Carl) Peterson; his beautiful grandchildren: Cullen, Ryah, Crew, Tyler, Marcus, Ben, John, Caitlin, Ashton, Sydney and Lila; siblings: Sherry Schuh, Jill (Mike) Rickert, Dean (Nancy) Van Vreede and Doug (Jodi) Van Vreede and by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Rd S, Freedom, WI. Visitation will take place at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 N Columbia Ave, Freedom, WI on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and at the church Thursday morning from 9:00 am until the time of mass.

The Van Vreede Family wishes to extend our gratitude to all who supported him during his illness. The love and compassion shown by family, friends, neighbors and community members have been a source of comfort and strength for our family with all of your kind word and visits. A special thanks to the Dr’s and Nurses from the ThedaCare Cancer center who cared for Denny throughout his journey for their dedication and kindness. The support from the hospice staff was invaluable, as they helped ensure that Denny’s final days were filled with comfort and dignity.

"We have to remind ourselves that some birds are not meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away a part of you rejoices, but the place they left behind is that much more drab and empty that they are gone"
