Mary Jo (Ria) Hooyman, age 76, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of her family at Cherry Meadows on October 24, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Eindhoven in North Brabant in The Nederlands on February 16, 1936, daughter of the late Peter and Christina (Janssen) Gietman, and moved to America in 1954 with her family at the age of 18. She met her husband, Robert Kamke, at the Cinderella Ballroom, where they were jitterbug champions. They married in November of 1958 when Mary Jo was twenty-two years old, and together had four children.

She made her home in Appleton where she started her career as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital and went on to work as a secretary at U.S. Oil. Later, Ria moved to Fremont where she owned and operated Candlelight Manor Bed and Breakfast until her retirement. In her retirement years, she was a volunteer driver for Waupaca County, which she enjoyed very much. The most important job to her was raising her four kids. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as attending church, taking trips with the family, being outside, watching movies, reading the Bible, talking with Jesus, and planting flowers. She was so proud of her garden and her yard!

She is survived by four children: Sandra (David) Moore of Iola; Ronda Ozment of Fremont and her fiancé William Hanson; Pamela (Greg) Beschta of Appleton; and Steven (Nicole) Kamke of Appleton; eight grandchildren: Jesse (Melissa), Ryan (Kimberly), Joshua, Benjamin, Samantha, Isabel, Stephen, and Matthew; two great-grandchildren: Alexis and Emily; a step-granddaughter: Kayonna. She is also survived by her sister: Nellie Bekx of Kimberly; brothers: Bert (Karen) Gietman of Combined Locks and John Gietman of California; and a sister-in-law: Barb Gietman of Little Chute. There are also numerous nieces and nephews. Ria was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Peter and Jacob Gietman; a brother-in-law Theodore Bekx; a sister-in-law Jan Gietman; and a son-in-law Timothy Ozment.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 29, 2012 at VICTORY CHURCH, E3443 Apple Tree Lane in Waupaca. Friends are welcome to gather at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Fremont.

Ria's family would like to offer their special thanks to hospice nurse Paula, the entire staff at Cherry Meadows, and the countless friends and neighbors for all of their help and support. We will never forget your kindness.

Mommy, you will be forever missed, and we love you always and forever.

      -Love, your kids.
