      Funeral services for August Mercks, 83, a long time railroad employee, will be at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Kabat officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

      Mr. Mercks, a resident of this city for the last 55 years, died Friday, November 30, at the Kaukauna Community Hospital. He had formerly resided at 924 Taft Street.

      He was born April 8, 1896, in Belgium, and had worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Loyal Star of Railroads.

      Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Desotell and Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) Ashauer, both of Kaukauna; two sons, Frank of Kaukauna, and John of Mc Farland, Wis.; a brother, Frank of New Jersey; four sisters, Mrs. Wesley (Louise) Guilfole of Kaukauna, Mrs. Leone Stammers of De Pere, Mrs. Peter ("Clem") Wachtendonck of Seymour, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Maes of New Jersey; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers; and two sisters.

      The Fargo Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
