    • John F. De Groot, 75, 1431 Chicago St., De Pere, died this morning at a local hospital. The son of the late Frank and Elizabeth De Groot was born Dec. 10, 1911 in Green Bay, and was a lifelong area resident. On May 27, 1935 he married the former Stella Smits at St. Mary Church, De Pere..

      Mr. De Groot was employed at the American Can Co. for 38 years prior to his retirement in March, 1974. He was an avid bowler for 50 years, and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was also an avid camper and fisherman..

      Mr. De Groot had been president of the Welfare Club of Northern Paper Mill for six years, and was a member of St. Mary Church, De Pere..

      Survivors include his wife, Stella, one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne F. and Lois De Groot, Allouez; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Neil Smits, Neenah; four grandchildren,, Scott and Julie De Groot, and Scott and Kristina Smits; one sister, Margaret Gezella, Green Bay; numerous nieces and nephews..

      He was precdeded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter, Mary Louise in 1968..

      Friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Prayer service 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, De Pere, with the Rev. Frank Schrage officiating. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery
