John W. "Jack" CroellAge 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Appleton Medical Center. John was born in Green Bay, WI on November 4, 1923, the son of Anne Croell-Jaeger. On June 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Arlene Fischer. Arlene preceded him in death May 6, 1996. Throughout John's working life he was a passionate cheese maker. While employed at Borden's Cheese Factory in New London, he competed for Best Cheese at the Wisconsin State Fair and won first place for his Swiss cheese in 1984.In his younger years John played baseball with his buddies and was an avid Cubs fan his entire life. Later in life he enjoyed fishing on the Wolf River and when time allowed, pitching a game of Horse Shoes. On November 1, 1997, John married Germaine Gomm-Burton. Together they enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends. John was able to go to Washington D.C. on the Old Glory Honor Flight, August 11, 2011, after serving in the Navy Seabees during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. John was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton, where he served as an usher.John is survived by his wife, Germaine Croell; five children, Sandra (Roger) Conradt, Diane (Gary) Boelter, Gary (Debbie) Croell, Gail (Mike) Steede, and Rene Conradt (John Bunnell); special sister-in-law, Joyce (Ray) Vander Zanden; eleven grandchildren, Mike Croell, Kate Croell, Brian Boelter, Brenda Fielding, Rhonda Volkman, Nick Steede, Rachael Balthazor-Orvis, Brianna Gunderson, Joel Fielding, Fred Fielding, and Henry Fielding; six great-grandchildren, Sam, Lacy, Kaden, Ezra, LeeLand, and Ethan. He is further survived by thirteen step-children and their families, Bill (Diane) Blom, Robert (Lisa) Blom, Jim (Lois) Blom, Linda (Gary) Coppock, Sandy (Darrel) Tietz, Raymond (Dianna) Burton, Barbara (James) Olk, Joe (Millie) Burton, Ann (Bryan) Sullivan, Alan (Michelle) Burton, Karen (Tony) Tickler, Florence (Milton) Peters, and Nancy Otto; half brother, Orville Jaeger; half sister, Delores Miller; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.John is preceded in death by his mother, Anne; wife, Arlene; grandson, Justin; and infant grand daughter.The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton, with Fr. John Kastenholz and Deacon Ken Bilgrien officiating. Family and friends may gather directly at church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in the St. Denis Parish Cemetery, Township of Bovina.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Appleton Medical Center for the great care they provided John. |
