    • Gladys Weber-Klein, age 87, passed away at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Gladys was born in the town of Maple Creek on July 26, 1929, daughter of the late August and Alice (Tech) Garske. She was a 1947 graduate of the New London High School, and in 1949 graduated from the Outagamie County Normal (Teachers') College in Kaukauna. Her first teaching assignment was at Henry Clay School in Sherwood, where she taught for five years. For the next three years, she taught at St. Patrick's in Askeaton. In 1959, she took a job with the Ashwaubenon School District, and was stationed at various schools for over forty years. It was during this time that Gladys earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from UW-Oshkosh in 1963, and her Master's of Education from Lesley College in 1990. During her career, her teaching expertise earned her many awards.

In May of 1951, Gladys married Michael Weber; he preceded her in death in 1965. In 1973, she married John Klein; he survives. In addition to John, Gladys is survived by her daughter: LuAnn (Gary) Vandenberg of Darboy; her three grandchildren meant the world to her: Amy Vandenberg of Lakeville, Minnesota; Justin (Lyndsey) Vandenberg of Savage, Minnesota; and Krista (Jarred) Spindler of West Bend; there are two great-grandchildren: Brielle Vandenberg and Grayson Spindler, with baby Brynlee Vandenberg expected to arrive soon. Other survivors include her in-laws: Eileen Brychell of Valparaiso, Indiana; Annabelle Weber of Askeaton; Ellie Weber of Forest Junction; and Bob Wenzel of Kaukauna. She is also survived by John's daughters: Julie (Bruce) Schwantes of Middleton and Jill (Dave) Shada of Kansas City; as well as their combined five children. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Michael, a brother: Warren (Joyce) Garske; and in-laws: Art Weber, Don Weber, Mary (Dick) Weyers, Anna Wenzel, and Steve Brychell.

Gladys was immensely proud of her farming heritage. She was a former 4-H leader, and enjoyed spending time showing horses with LuAnn. Her pets were also much loved - farm animals, horses, and dogs - she loved them all. Her best friend and companion, Lacy the cocker spaniel, will miss her company. Gladys was also an expert homemaker. She loved to can, bake from scratch, and make jams and jellies. Preparing Thanksgiving meals also brought her great joy. Easter break from teaching gave her the opportunity for travel. She enjoyed many spring trips with family and friends over the years. Finally, those that knew Gladys well, knew she was a diehard Packer fan, and a HUGE fan of Brett Favre. She never missed a Packer game.

The funeral service for Gladys will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at ALLELUIA LUTHERAN CHURCH, at the corner of Elmro Road and Highway 96 in Greenleaf. Rev. Aaron Hutton will officiate, and interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Hilbert. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday morning, from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
