- Mrs. Rose A. (Nick) Thiel, Appleton, Formerly of St. John WI, 99, passed away at Franciscan Care Center on Tues. Apr. 1, 1997. She was born on Sept. 3, 1897 in the Town of Woodville, the daughter of the late John and Rose Horn Fisch. Rose was united in marriage to Nickolas Thiel on June 12, 1917 at St. John Catholic Church in St. John. They spent their life farming. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1935. She enjoyed rug weaving, playing cards and socializing with her friends. Rose retired from Gilbert Paper Co. in Menasha on Sept. 1, 1962. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha. She was also preceded in death by her son, Silverius "Syl" Thiel, grandson, Tim Thiel; brothers: Michael and John Fisch; and a sister, Gertrude Schreiner.
She is survived by two daughters: Evelyn (Fahrenkrug) (George) VandenBrook, Kimberly; Rosalyn Thiel, Menasha; friend Henry Horn; daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Russell) Beck; six grandchildren: Richard Fahrenkrug, Menasha, Jacqueline (Steve) LaRose, Appleton; Robert (Rhoda) Thiel, Clintonville; Gary (Bonnie) Thiel, Mosinee; Mary (James) Roberts, Eagan MN; Dawn Anderson, Minneapolis MN. She is further survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Disiree Fahrenkrug, Bloomington IN, Scott Fahrenkrug, Fond du Lac; Todd Thiel, Madison; Stacia Thiel, St. Louis MO; Jeffery (Julie) Thiel, Waukesha; Tammy (Paul) Young, Fond du Lac; Robb Thiel, Madison; Chad Dustin, Ashley Rose Robert, Eagan MN; two great-great-grandchildren: Patrick and Ryan, Fond du Lac. She is further survived by sisters-in-law: Mrs. John Fisch, Neenah; Mrs. Rose Thiel, St. John; Mrs. Esther Thiel, Appleton; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be Fri. Apr. 4, 1997 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha, 212 Appleton St. with Fr. Bob Lussier officiating. The visitation will be Friday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of mass. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in St. John. In lieu of flowers memorials and masses are appreciated to a scholarship fund for St. Mary Catholic Church. The Valley Funeral Home, Appleton, is assisting the family with arrangements. A special thank you and gratefulness to the entire staff at the Franciscan Care Center for all their kindness and loving care they extended to our mother.
