- Lucille Anna Kempen, 96, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Monday night March 5, 2012, at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Lucille Anna Kempen was born September 29, 1915 in Crabtree, Oregon, the daughter of the late Antone and Petronella (Hermens) Evers. She was raised and received her education in the Verboort community, having attended Visitation School and later the Forest Grove High School, having been a member of the Class of 1938.
Lucille was united in marriage to Francis Wilbert Kempen on February 11, 1947 at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home on the family farm off Stringtown Road in Forest Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on October 23, 2000, at Hillsboro, Oregon, after celebrating over fifty three years of marriage together. Lucille continued to live on the family farm.
Lucille and her husband, Francis worked on the family farm having raised grain, strawberries and poultry over the years. They retired in 1989. She also had worked as a bookkeeper for several years for the Carnation Food Plant in Hillsboro, Oregon.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, being an active member of St. Anthony's Parish in Forest Grove, as well as a member of the National Catholic Order of Forester's.
Among her special interests, Lucille enjoyed quilting, knitting and riding her stationary bike.
Lucille's passions in life were her faith, her family and the Trail Blazers.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Antone and Petronella Evers; her daughter, Mary Lyon, in 1984; her brothers, Ernest Evers, Robert Evers, Francis Evers and Willis Evers; and her sister, Barbara Meeuwsen.
Survivors include her seven children and their spouses, Alan and Kathy Kempen, of Port Orchard, Washington; Neil Kempen, of Spokane, Washington; Lois and David Jurhs, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Jean LeMire, of Forest Grove, Oregon; Ruth Kempen, of Cornelius, Oregon; Lynn and Clayton Kubota, of Forest Grove, Oregon; Mark and Vilma Kempen of Guam; her son-in-law, Don Lyon, of Mesa, Arizona; her three sisters, Sister Anna Evers, S.S.M.O., of Beaverton, Oregon; Margaret Landauer, of Verboort, Oregon; and Janice Spath of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Also surviving are her twelve grandchildren, her six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
