      Elmer Anthony Vandenberg

      Elmer Vandenberg of Kaukauna, age 85, died at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King on April 6, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 15, 1919 in Stanley, Wisconsin a son of the late Arthur and Cathering [Heiting] Vandenberg. He married the late Ruth Vanevenhoven on September 18, 1947 in Kaukauna. Elmer was in the Army Air Corp in World War II and finished his military service in the Army Reserves retiring retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his retirement in 1982 from International Papers Thilmany Mill, he was involved in many activies. Elmer was a member of the Kaukauna Lions Club, Kaukauna Athletic Club [person of the year 1991] Thilmany Quarter Century Club, Kaukauna Alumni Ass. Quarterback club, Wrightstown American Legion Post 436, Kaukauna VFW Post 3319 and the Rainbow Club. Elmer also enjoyed bowling with his brothers, the trips he took with his sons, and going to the many KHS Athletic events and in particular Cross Country [Friends of Cross Country Award 1999] and wrestling.

      He is survived by seven sons, Thomas [Sherril] Sheboygan; Richard [Ruth] Kaukauna, Anthony [Jone Bongers], West Bend, Joseph [Debbie] De Perd, Jon [Jo Ann] Little Chute, Steven [special friend Yati], Appleton, Robert [Kristy Hoffman] Kaukauna, and eleven grandchildren, Allison, Appleton, Ryan,.USAF, Milwaukee, Ross, Little Chute, Tricia, Kaukauna, Kevin Bongers, Wausau, Sara Bongers, Minneapolis, Brianna and James, Little Chute, Mark, Katherine, and Lee, Kaukauna; three brothers, Ray [Margaret], Harry [Marie] and Roy [Pauline], a sister, Marcelain Vandenberg, Kaukauna; a sister in-law 'Mitt' [Wodjenski] Vandenberg; sister and brother in-law, Jan [Gene]
      Schiedermayer, Missoula, Mt.; brother and and sister in-law, Tom [Peg] Vanevenhoven, Yuba City, Ca.; brother in-law, Elroy [Red] Vanevenhoven, Kaukauna; sister in-law, Dorothy Vanevenhoven Eslien, Oshkosh and special friends, Skip, Sue and the Leigh Grube Family of Sherwood.

      In addition to his parents and wife Ruth, he was preceded in death by a brother, 'Johnny [Mitt] Vandenberg; a sister, Irene Vandenberg School; a brother in-law, Alois School,sisters in-law, Virginia [Hartzheim] Mary Lou Vanevenhoven (Jack) Lowes, Joan Vanevenhoven, Valery Vanevenhoven( Ed) Knox, and Brothers in-law: Norbert (Eleanor) Vanevenhoven,Robert ( Vivian) Vanevenhoven, and Richard Eslien.

      Elmer's funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, April 11,2005, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack T. mullarkey officiating. Viewing and visitation will be Subday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna from 4 p.m. until 8p.m. and again on Monday at the Church from 10a.m. until the end of the service. Full Military Burial Honors will be performed at Church following Elmer's service.
