    • Melvin R. La Fond, 98, of Black Creek passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Freedom at the home of his daughter surrounded by his family. He was born May 21, 1916 son of the late Edward and Sarah (LeJoyce) La Fond. On April 14, 1937 he was united in marriage to Almira Willey in Wrightstown. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2003.

      He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Black Creek.

      Melvin served in the US Air Force during WWII in the South Pacific.

      He worked a few different jobs over the years and retired from Wisconsin Michigan Power Company in 1982. Melvin and Almira also operated an 80 acre dairy farm.

      Spending time with his family was important to Melvin, especially with his sweetheart Almira. In his free time, Mel enjoyed horseback riding, woodworking, and stained glass artwork.

      He is survived by his children: Rene La Fond, Bonduel; Rachel (John) Olofson, Freedom; Roberta (Roger) Jezeski, Black Creek; daughter-in-law, Joan La Fond, Hilbert; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dolly Rudd, El Paso, TX; two sisters-in-law: Francis Willey, Louisville, KY, and Grace Willey, Kaukauna; and brother-in-law, Harold Merkl, Wrightstown.

      In addition to his wife and parents, Melvin is preceded in death by a son, Roderick La Fond; grandson, Ryan La Fond; great-grandson Phillip Ryan Groskinsky Jr; siblings: Marie, Florian (Vi) La Fond, Babe (Joe) VandeWalle, and Royal La Fond; and brother-in-law, Donald Rudd.

      Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. visitation will continue at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr.
