- Loraine Rose (Cordy) VanHoorn, 89, was born into eternal life on December 2, 2012. On January 27, 1923 Frank and Catherine (Kiefer) Cordy welcomed Loraine and her twin sister Lorena into their family.
Loraine grew up on the family farm with her 9 brothers and sisters. The Cordy family was close knit, loving and hardworking. Many stories were shared about working together in the beet fields, threshing and the magic of Christmas mornings.
During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by working in a mill in Menasha. On June 25, 1949 she joined her life in marriage to William Henry VanHoorn. They farmed in the Stockbridge area and raised their family together until Bill's death in 1973. Loraine continued to help run the farm until her retirement.
Loraine was a lifelong member of St. Mary's of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, a member of the Christian Mothers and American Legion Auxiliary and actively served her community.
Loraine is survived by her children: Lory (Gary) Wieseckel, Leo (Janene) VanHoorn, Bill (Sue) VanHoorn and Richard VanHoorn and his fiancée Laurie Meyer. She is also survived by her "favorite" grandchildren: Ann (Joe) Cataldo, Pam Wieseckel, Maria VanHoorn (Tom Stolp), Andrew (Megan) VanHoorn, Michael VanHoorn and special friend Kalin Hephner, Will VanHoorn, Molly VanHoorn and special friend Richard Gaffney, Ryan (Chad) Gerhartz and great grandchildren Brycen, Reegan and Nolan Gerhartz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers Roman (Esther) Cordy, Leo Cordy and Francis Cordy; and six sisters: Loretta (Irwin) Raddatz, Cecilia Cordy, Catherine (Mathew) Diederich, Eleanor (August) Weber, Lorena (Robert) Hemauer and Sister Helen Anthony Cordy.
Funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Mary of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Stockbridge. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 6:15 p.m.
