Hartjes, James W. "Cobby" James W. "Cobby" Hartjes, Little Chute, age 79, died Monday June 11, 2007, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous year and a half battle with cancer. Cobby was born on July 22, 1927, in Little Chute, to the late Dewey and Viola (Bohm) Hartjes. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII and was a fifty year member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. In 1953, he married Florence Jansen. She preceded him in death in 1963. He then married Grace Hietpas on May 1, 1965, at Holy Name Parish in Kimberly. Cobby worked as a pipe fitter at Kimberly Clark for 17 years, and then Paper Converting Machine Company until his retirement in 1992. Cobby was a member of the St. John Athletic Association as well as a member of their Hall of Fame. He was a fan of both the Packers and Brewers. Everyone knew not to disturb him when he was watching these events on television. He loved everything about golf, including the hour it took him to clean his clubs. Cobby enjoyed the annual week spent at the cottage in Waupaca, and most of all, cherished time spent with his family.

- When my grandpa Hartjes was little he didn't like school but he was very smart. He was also good in sports. He has two brothers and lived in Little Chute his whole life. Later when he was growing up he joined the service out of high school.
