Notes - Hilbert Favorite:-- Joseph Nilles, a resident of this village for seven years and one of the earliest settlers in this section of the state, died at his home here on Friday evening, after an illness of seven weeks. Pleurisy was the cause of his demise.
Deceased was born in Germany the 11th day of November, 1832. In 1874 his family emigrated to America and settled on a farm one and one half miles from here, just north of the Math Nilles farm. They resided on the homestead for thirty-three years, then retired from active work and moved to this village.
Ten children were born to them of which eight survive. They are;

Mrs. Joe Ortig of Crystal Falls, Mich., and

His wife, nee Margaret Jaeckels, forty-five grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
The funeral was held Monday morning from St. Marys church, Rev. Max Osward officiating, with interment in St. Marys cemetery.
Besides the children, the following from out of town were here; Math Jaeckels of Appleton, Mrs. Nic Jaeckels and Mr. and Mrs. John Jaeckels of Kaukauna, John Brittnacher of Greenleaf and Wm. Weeks of Chilton.
Deceased was the father of John Nilles, the west side harness maker. Mr. Nilles went down to attend the funeral.
This obituary appeared in the Grand Rapids Tribune, page 4 on 18 Feb 1914. It quotes the Hilbert Favorite.
