- John F. Vandenberg 309 W. Division Street Kaukauna Age 79, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2000 at the Appleton Medical Center. Johnny was born in Stanley, Wisconsin on January 25, 1921, son of the late Arthur and Catherine (Heiting) Vandenberg.
On June 21, 1947, he married the former Marian "Mitt" Wodjenski at Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. Johnny was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps for four years, and was a member of the Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW. He was employed for 25 years by Klein's Dairy and later worked as a security guard at Thilmany Pulp and Paper until his retirement. Johnny was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, and spending time at family cottages up north.
John's children were the pride of his life, and his grandchildren were the apples of his eye. He always treasured the times he spent as a spectator at their sporting events. John is survived by his wife, Mitt Vandenberg, Kaukauna three daughters: Janey (Bill) Konitzer, Little Chute Julie (Dan) Dorn, Kaukauna and Joan (Dave) Van Eperen, Little Chute a son, Jim "Yogi" (Lea), Little Chute 12 grandchildren: Kristin Vandenberg and her fiance, Mike Verhagen, Jeff Vandenberg, Rob Konitzer, Angie Konitzer, Kevin Konitzer, Shannon Konitzer, Abby Dorn, Lindsey Dorn, Garrett Dorn, Dan Van Eperen, Katie Van Eperen, and Tim Van Eperen a sister: Marcy Vandenberg four brothers: Ray (Marge) Vandenberg, Little Chute Elmer Vandenberg, Kaukauna Harry (Marie) Vandenberg, Little Chute and Roy (Marianne) Vandenberg, Darboy two sisters-in-law: Babs (Jim) Weyenberg, Kaukauna and Jackie Wodjenski, Seattle, Washington. Johnny was preceded in death by a grandson, Ross Dorn a sister Irene (Al) School sisters-in-law: Ruth Vandenberg and Virginia Vandenberg his mother and father-in-law John and Julia Wodjenski and a brother-in-law Bob Wodjenski. A memorial funeral liturgy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Friends may call AT THE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at which time the family will leave for the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at McArthur Hall at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home in King as well as the medical staff at the Appleton Medical Center ICU. Your kindness and compassion made Johnny's last days more comfortable. Thank you so very much.
