- Bob was a graduate of St. Mary’s Central High School Class of 1963. He then joined the United States Navy serving on the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean as an Interior Communication Technician. Bob left the Navy in 1984 as a Petty Officer 1st Class E6 receiving a National Defense Service Medal. He was very proud of his military career and was honored to serve his country. Bob was employed with Ma Bell Phone Company, later named WI Bell and AT&T, for 30 plus years as a telecommunications technician before retiring in 2004.
Bob married the love of his life, Candace Calmes, on July 1, 1967 and enjoyed 50 wonderful years together until Candy’s passing in 2018. Bob and Candy enjoyed taking day trips every Saturday, visiting many adjacent states as well as many visits to Amish areas from Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa. Bob truly cherished his road trips with Candy and they often times had no set destination; they simply enjoyed the time together. He found solace in nature and loved watching the different wildlife in his backyard.
Bob’s greatest joys in life were his family and helping people. His children will be forever thankful for the valuable life lessons, skills, and impeccable work ethic he taught them. In addition to spending time with his family, Bob also made great friendships and memories along the way, especially with the members of Appleton’s Post 38 American Legion, who he considered a part of his family.
Later in life, Bob’s grandchildren brought him immense joy and happiness, and they are loved by their Pops beyond comprehension and have another beautiful angel watching over them.
Bob is survived by his children: Matthew (Paula), Travis (Lisa), Ryan (Camille), Shawn (Bethany), and Kira Schoultz; grandchildren: Terry, Michael, Justin, Abby, Maddie, Ryder, Hayden, Rae, Leticia, and Benjy; special friends: Carmen Robinson and Lou Jungbluth; siblings: Janet (Jeff) Hickey, Janice (Bob) VandenHeuvel, twin brother, Bill (Mary) Schoultz, Paul (Jan) Schoultz, and Ellen (Kevin) Mancosky; brother-in-law, Tom Calmes; and sister-in-law, Helen Calmes. He is further survived by many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Candace; brother, Jerome Schoultz; and sister, Mary Lemley.
