Wachtendonck, Jr., Henry "Hank"
Henry "Hank" Wachtendonck, Jr., age 68, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Hank was born to Henry, Sr. and Johanna (Ruys) Wachtendonck on December 9, 1940, in Appleton, WI. He graduated from Kimberly High School in 1959 and in 1961 married his high school sweetheart, Pat Verhoeven. They enjoyed 48 happy years together. Following their marriage, Hank worked for Holy Name School and United Grocers of Little Chute. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Amanda, Alysa and Danny. His special buddy, "Snickers" provided him great company during his struggle and brought him much joy. He enjoyed reading, carving for his grandchildren and traveling. He was a former member and officer of the Kimberly High School Booster Club back when his son and daughter were in sports and also a CYO basketball coach. He loved attending their games and they brought him much pride.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Kimberly; son, Mark (Trina), Tampa, Florida and daughter Sara Remington (and special friend, Jim Fox) of Louisville, Colorado; grandchildren, Amanda Wachtendonck, Milwaukee, WI, and Alysa and Danny Remington of Louisville, Colorado; a sister, Linda (Dave) Lopas, Kimberly, and their children, Tammy Lopas, his god child, Jenny (Matt) Brans and Scott Lopas (fiance Tiffany Swedberg). He is also survived by nieces, Donna (Tom) Cummings, Robin (Phil) Wagner, nephews, Mike Lom, Dale Schock and his godchild, Danny (Becca) Schock. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Bernice Verhoeven of Kaukauna, and step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Stephen) Burnham and their daughter, Grayce of North Carolina and Laurie Griffith (fiance Jim Woolever) and their daughter, Savannah of Tampa, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mia Schock, brothers-in-law, Tom Lom and Bob Schock, his father-in-law, Earl Verhoeven and several aunts and uncles. According to Hank's wishes cremation will take place.
A funeral liturgy for Hank will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 12 Noon at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 600 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, WI, with Fr. David Beaudry officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Theda Care at Home Hospice.
A special thank you to Dr. Travis Kroner, Dr. Motara, Dr. Swanson and all the kind people at Theda Care at Home Hospice who tended to Hank. Your kindness and caring made this journey bearable. A sincere thank you to our neighbors and friends at Hitters, Marty's and throughout the community for your support and kindness.
