    • John H. Heezen Sr., 96, Green Bay, died Sunday morning, Aug. 8, 2010, at a local nursing home, following a long illness. He was born July 17, 1914, in the town of Bellevue, to the late George and Elizabeth (Linssen) Heezen. On Dec. 31, 1941, he married the former Dorothy Cleven at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida, Wis.


      Mr. Heezen was a veteran of World War II. He served with Company E, 330th Engineers in the China, Burma and India Theaters of Operations. In conjunction with operating a dairy farm, he worked for the Chicago &Northwestern Railroad until his retirement. As a member of the Holy Martyrs/Prince of Peace Parish Community, John served as an usher, was a member of the Holy Name Society, sang in the choir and always worked in the booyah shed at the annual parish picnic. He volunteered for many years at the St. Vincent de Paul Store; and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Bellevue V.F.W. and a local horseshoe league.
      Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Smith (Robert F.), Grace Vanderperren (Roger), Ginny Steier (Mike), Green Bay; Sue Fencl (Mike) Appleton; two sons and daughters-in-law, John, Jr. (Kathi) Green Bay; and Rick (Mary), Sobieski; grandchildren, Leah Liebergen (Scott), Melissa Smith, Mitchell Vanderperren (Mikaela), Gwenn Hansen (Brad), Angel Charapata (Dale), Eric Heezen (Stephanie), Christian Steier (Colleen), Amy Johnson (Jeremie), Jason Fencl (Julie) and Samantha Heezen; great-grandchildren, Ivory Mitchell, Hayden Weininger, Annika, Melena and Ian Vanderperren, Aidan and Caleb Hansen, Alyssa and Corinne Charapata, Connor and Addison Heezen, Brooklynn and Bennett Steier, Jaden Bacon, Aleck and Linnea Johnson, Tyler, Megan and Lauren Fencl. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Van de Hei; sister-in-law, Blanche Heezen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Joyce Cleven, David Cleven, Jack and Jane Cleven, Dan Cleven, Carl Wagner, and Maxine Cleven; godchildren, Bernard Vanden Bergh, Mary Stahl, Larry Cleven, Paula Smits, and Judy Larson; many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances and Christian Cleven; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lambert and Mabel, Andrew and Martha, Peter and Elsie, Rose, Henry, Hilbert and Amelia, Robert and Betty; sisters, Catherine Vanden Bergh, Sister Lambert, O.S.F. (Gertrude); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Vanden Bergh, Clarence Van de Hei, Lloyd and Rita Cleven, Jeanette and Cletus Van Lanen, Joan Wagner, Ruth Cleven, William Cleven; great-grandchildren, Micah Johnson, Adah Ciel and Ella Mattea Heezen; nieces and nephews.

      Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. VFW service 6:30 p.m. Parish wake service 7 p.m. with Deacon Bill Burkel officiating. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Ron Belitz officiating.
