      Wulterkens, Minnie (Minnie Hakkert)

Minnie Wulterkens, formerly of Kimberly, passed away after a long illness at Rennes Health Center in Appleton on August 30, 2009. She was 91. Minnie was born April 14, 1918, in Geldermalsen, The Netherlands, daughter of the late Leonard and Gertrude (Schook) Hakkert. On January 5, 1946, she married Harry Wulterkens; he preceded her in death on December 1, 1986. Minnie was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly and was an expert seamstress. She donated her talents to family, friends, friends of friends, and her church freely, and with a good heart. Minnie was an avid bowler and had many friends with whom she enjoyed life and also had several special neighborhood friends for whom she provided emotional support and comfort. She was especially proud of her strong-willed mother, and Minnie stood up for herself, family, and friends the way her own mother always did. She was exceptionally gifted at reading the feelings of others, especially of her husband and son, whose needs she often met without having to be asked. Minnie endured a lengthy stay in the nursing home with strength and was known as a sweet lady who took a personal interest in her caregivers. She was visited regularly by fellow parishioners Larry and Margaret Artz, who always ended their visits with the old Dutch saying, "Hou je maar tij" or "hang on tight." Minnie's family is especially thankful to the Artzes for these visits. She always retained a little ability and a lot of enjoyment in speaking a bit of the mother tongue.

She is survived by her son: Paul (Jean) Wulterkens, of St. Paul, Minnesota; her grandson Jason Wulterkens; two sisters: Koby Ebben and Lena (Bob) Polakowski; a brother, John (Mary Ann) Hakkert; and a brother-in-law, Louis (Ethel) Wulterkens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, a brother Jake (Johanna) Hakkert, a sister Christina (Richard) DeCoster, and a brother-in-law Richard Ebben.

The funeral liturgy for Minnie will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue with Fr. David Beaudry officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. until the hour of the liturgy.
