- Mabel M. (Bloy) DeGrave, 98, Green Bay, passed away peacefully Friday, April 29, 2016 into the arms of her Lord. She was born December 26, 1917 to Henry and Mathilda Bergman in Kaukauna. She started her employment at Uneeda Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Appleton and later at Montgomery Ward and Prange's in Green Bay. Our Mom was a feisty little red-haired lady who did not hesitate to give you her opinion. We are convinced that her great spirit and zest for life contributed to her long life.
Mabel loved shopping, gardening and flowers, going to the lake and fishing with our Dad, playing cards and bingo, and did we mention shopping? She was always dressed well and loved her jewelry.
Above all, she loved and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren. She married our Dad, Donald J. Bloy, at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute on Sept. 2, 1939 and he passed away in 1986.
Mabel is survived by her four children, Harlan (Ruth) Bloy, Janet Laes, Barbara (Ben) Cruz-Uribe, Bonnie (Stan) Waslowski; eight grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Proebsting, Kristine (Brian) Finell, Beth (Red) Rogge, Eric (Kelli) Laes, Lara Cruz-Uribe, Justin (Kim) Cruz-Uribe, Karen (Rob) Gitlewski, Kathy Waslowski and her special friend, Tim; eight great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter, Jennifer (Jeremy) Doucette; a step-grandson, Greg Deatherage; five step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In 1992, she married Roland A. DeGrave and expanded our family to include: seven step-children, Gary (Pat) DeGrave, Roger (Betty) DeGrave, Gale (Steve) Schmiedlin, Judy DeGrave, Gini (Kip) Detry, Kathy DeGrave, Mike (Diane) DeGrave; 14 step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her brother, James (Nancy) Bergman; sister, Evelyn (Bert) Vander Wegen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leonard (Shirley) Bloy, Adolph (Charlotte) Bloy, Elizabeth Bloy, Mary "Pat" Bloy, Margaret Gresl.
Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Donald Bloy; her second husband, Roland DeGrave; daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Bloy; son-in-law, Larry D. Laes; step-son-in-law, Earl Lee; two brothers, Sgt. Charles Bergman, Norbert (Grace) Bergman; two sisters, Beatrice (Norbert) Sigl, Joan Bergman Crowe; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph (Gertrude) Bloy; Mildred (Everett) Wiegert, Florence (Henry) Weyenberg, Raymond Bloy, Ben Bloy, Linda (Lawrence) Mader, Paul Gresl.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Family, at the corner of Suburban Dr. and Lourdes Ave., West DePere, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Father Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family extends their thanks to the 4th floor staff of Bellin Hospital and to the staff of the Jack and Ingrid Meng Unity Hospice Residence for the loving care they gave to our Mom.
