- Wounds Fatal to Kaukauna Marine
 
 
Sergeant Warren G. Alger, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Alger, 204 E. Eighth Street, Kaukauna, died April 1 of wounds received March 20 on Iwo Jima, according to a telegram received Tuesday by his parents.  He was buried at sea. 
 
Sergeant Alger apparently was on his way to a hospital in the United States, because he had written to his parents March 26 that he was on his way home. 
 
A veteran of Carlson's Raiders, the Kaukauna marine had been in the service over three years.  He was with the first marines to land on Guadalcanal, where he was wounded, and also took part in the landing on Bougainville.  He came home on furlough and then was assigned to the new Fifth Marine divisions, which fought on Iwo Jima. 
 
Born June 13, 1920, in Kaukauna, he attended Nicolet Grade School and was graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1938. 
 
Survivors are his parents;  three sisters, Mrs. Arden Walker and Mrs. Louis Dahm, Kaukauna, and Mrs. Fred Vanden Boom, Little Chute; and three brothers, Woodrow, a fireman first class in the south Pacific; William, a seaman first class in the coast guard, now in the Philippines area; and Harvey, Kaukauna. 
 
A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Immanuel Evangelical and ?? Crhurch, Kaukauna.  The Rev. John Scheib in charge.
