- Helen C. (Albers) Van Vonderen, 101, passed into the hands of our Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2016. She was born May 11, 1914, the first child of George and Harriet (Denissen) Albers. On November 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Norbert Van Vonderen at St. Boniface Church, De Pere. Together they raised their daughter Mari.
Helen was born, raised, and lived her entire life in De Pere until January 2016 when she moved to an apartment at St. Paul Villa, Kaukauna. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and meticulous homemaker, cook, and seamstress. Helen worked in retail in the De Pere area including at the White Store in the shoe department. She will be remembered for her kindness, determination, and her "sweetness and spunk" throughout her life. Helen also spent a number of years volunteering at the De Pere Christian Outreach, enjoying Seroogy's candies, and contributions as a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere.
Helen is survived by her grandchildren: Nina (Aaron) Penning and Michael (Julie) Pienta; son-in-law Marty Root; great granddaughters: Ariauna, Zoe, Lucy and Ruby; sisters: Marie Denissen and Blanche (Jerry) Eckers; and sister-in-law Grace Albers. In addition, she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews from both the Albers and Van Vonderen family and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norbert; daughter Mari Root; sisters: Katherine (Francis) DuPuis and Adele (Robert) Collaer, brothers: Clem Albers and Eugene (Mary) Albers: brother-in-law Robert Denissen; father and mother-in-law Frank and Ann Van Vonderen; and the rest of Norbert's family.
Family and friends may visit from 8:30 to 10:00 am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at the church with Fr. Judah Pigon, MF officiating. Burial will be next to her husband Norbert in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
