- Joan Joyce Mary Gartzke, age 61, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Oshkosh. Joan was born on September 26, 1951 in Menasha to James and Joyce (Eastman) Bednarowski. She was a graduate of Menasha High School. After school Joan worked for James River Corp. in Menasha and was a Union Rep. for many years. Joan was a life-long resident of the Valley area, marrying her husband William Gartzke in 1975. After Bill's retirement they moved to the Cloverleaf Lakes area until her illness. Joan enjoyed cooking (a talent she inherited from her grandmother Martha), and being around her family and friends.
Survivors include her father, James (Elaine Zotas) Bednarowski; mother, Joyce Bednarowski; children: Rene (Brett Malzhan) Waters, Steve Gartzke, Tammy Gartzke; grandchildren: Jamie, Thomas, Nykole, Casie, Dalton; siblings: Dave (Christa) Bednarowski, John Bednarowski, Joe (Linda) Bednarowski, Ann (Gary) Wade, Dan (Martha) Bednarowski, Kim (Tom) Miller, Doug (Tanya) Peterson; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her son, Timothy Bednarowski.
The Funeral service for Joan will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church (473 Seventh Street, Menasha) with Rev. David Skarsten officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
