    • Magdalene E. VanRyzin, "Maggie," age 83, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Maggie was born in Stratford, WI on June 8, 1929, to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Kauer) Hartl. On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gordon Goetsch. Together the couple had 3 daughters and a son. In June of 1974, she married Phelan VanRyzin. The couple shared 33 years together until his death in 2008. Maggie was a waitress all of her life and took great pride in her work - she was loved by all that knew her. She worked at Babe Van Camps, The Left Guard, Norms Steak House, Skalls, and the Old Grog. She later owned and operated the Old Grog, then sold it after 10 years. Maggie then went on to work at Spats for many years, retiring in 1975. She loved people and had a great passion for reading. She also enjoyed embroidering, traveling, dancing, cooking - her specialty was pumkin pies, and especially her sisters trips. She was a member at St. Bernard Catholic Church for over 30 years.

She will be missed by her two daughters: Katherine Pawlowski, Appleton and Patricia (Wayne o) Martin, Appleton; 13 grandchildren: Sandon Pawlowski, Jennifer Pawlowski, Angelica Pawlowski, Carrie Pawlowski, Andrew Tupper, Chadwick Goetsch, Jonathon Goetsch, Michael Goetsch Jr., Cory Martin, Jason Martin, Tanya Grafen, Tammy Martin, and Kristy Martin ; 9 great grandchildren; a brother Michael (Delores) Hartl, Stratford; 3 sisters: Anna Ellenbecker, Bruce, WI, Delores (Jack) Fors, Indianapolis, and Betty (Leon) Grendzinski, Wausau; 2 daughters-in-law: Claudette Goetsch and Dena Goetsch, and her loving companion and friend Muffin. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Gordon, second husband Phelan, daughter Christine (James) Tuchscherer, son Michael Goetsch, sister Mary (Carl) Treml, brother -in-law Francis "Hack" Ellenbecker, and her loving companion and friend Mesha.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 18, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St. Appleton, with Father Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Affinity Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Maggie.
