      Deeg, Betty D.
      Betty D. Deeg, age 84, of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at ManorCare with her daughter at her side. Betty was born February 24, 1923, in Kaukauna, the daughter of Joseph, Sr. and Anna (Christensen) Steger. She was united in marriage to Arthur G. Deeg in Appleton on May 13, 1944. He preceded her in death June 24, 1978. Betty was a homemaker and lived in the Fox Valley all of her life. For the past several years she lived at the Appleton Retirement Community (formerly Angelus).

      She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and was a Red Hat Lady. Betty loved playing cards, especially sheepshead, and playing bingo. She enjoyed going on the many outings with her friends and staff from Appleton Retirement Community, and participating in many activities.

      Betty is survived by her son, Bill (Karen) Deeg, Menasha; and her daughter, Sue (Dave) Wachtendonk, Appleton; her grandchildren: Craig Deeg, Cheri (Wil) Baye, Ryan Deeg, Mandy (Matt Hauser) Wachtendonk, Justin (Sarah) Wachtendonk, Dan (Rose) Deeg, Scott (Diana) Deeg, Debbie (Shawn) Bethay, and Carmen Deeg; there are eight great-grandchildren and her ninth great-grandchild is expected in June; her sisters: Marion Lambie and Lorraine Heilman; her brothers: Joe (Dar) Steger and Bob (Betty Jane) Steger; her sister-in-law, Mary Deeg; and other relatives and friends.

      Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her son, Dennis; her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Harriet Steger; her brothers-in-law: Carl Heilman and Stan Lambie; as well as many members of the Arthur Deeg family.

      Funeral services for Betty will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, downtown chapel, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Betty's name is being established by her family.

      A very special thanks is extended to the staff at Appleton Retirement Community and all her good friends there for their love and care for Betty the past seven years. And further thanks to the ManorCare staff for their care given to Betty and her family the past four weeks.
