- Robert L LaPlante "Bob," 78, Kaukauna, died on Saturday December 10, 2005, at Cherry Meadows. He was born on April 6, 1927 to the late Selma (Mueller) and Lester LaPlante in Sheboygan. Bob graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1945. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until his honorable discharge 1947. After the war, he returned to Kaukauna and worked at Giddings & Lewis from 1951 until it closed in 1972. Bob ran for political office and served as Mayor of the City of Kaukauna from 1972 until 1982. On April 13, 1985, he married the former Jane Seif. He was past President of the Kaukauna Athletic Club and was a Lifetime Member of the Friends of the 1000 Island Environmental Center. Bob was a huge sports fan, whether it was football, baseball, basketball, golf or bowling. He bowled for many years and he also enjoyed a good game of cards. He loved to tell jokes and stories to make people laugh or bring a smile to their face.
He is survived by his wife Jane, two sons, Ron (Diane) LaPlante of Appleton, Dennis (Gwen) LaPlante of Grand Island, Nebraska, and six daughters, Vikki Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy (Tom) Keil of Kaukauna, Mary (Rick) Zeumer of Neenah, Terri (Donny) Magliulo of Brielle, New Jersey, Beth (Brad) Zoern of Germantown, Jody LaPlante of Menasha and daughter-in-law Susan LaPlante of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by ten grandchildren; Vanessa Smith, Tim (fiance, Becky) Keil, Trish (Doug) Weinke, Cole Zeumer, Tessa Magliulo, Alec and Adam Zoern, Marin (Jeff) Kleinke, Courtney LaPlante and Abby (Clint) Dexter; four great-grandchildren; Breanna Keil, Kaelyn Weinke, Madeline and Cooper Kleinke; a sister, Joyce (Mel) Munes and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Selma and four sons; Bob, Jim, Dan and Brian.
The funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at Church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
