- Adeline E. Nieland, 82, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Rennes Health Care Center. Adeline was born in New London on Oct. 11, 1928, to the late Raymond and Helen (Weber) Schmitz. On Jan. 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Delmar Nieland. The couple enjoyed 58 years together until Delmar's death in August of 2009. Adeline has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton for many years.
Adeline's life centered around her family and her faith. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, fishing, puzzles and games. She was always up for a good game of Sheepshead or watching the Packers.
She is survived by four daughters, Barb (Mark) Spaude, Appleton; Susan (Richard) Springer, Cincinatti; Bonnie (Michael) Hintz, Appleton; and Sharon Miller, Appleton; two sons, Lawrence Nieland, Appleton; and Russell (Sheryl) Nieland, Little Chute; eight grandchildren, Tracie (Ernest) Bishop, Joey (Beth) Springer, Troy Neiland, Antony Nieland, Samantha Nieland, Jonathon Hintz, Ben Hintz, and Blake Miller; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ernie Bishop, and Joey and Brandon Springer; brother-in- law, James (Barbara) Nieland; six sisters-in-law, Deloris Maas, Beverly Harke, Jan Nieland, Gloria Schmitz, Marlene Schmitz, and Lavone Schmitz. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Judith; her parents, three brothers, Jerome, Richard, and Gordon Schmitz; sister, Muriel (Ted) Huiting; and three brothers-in-law, Marvin Nieland, Eugene Maas, and Elwood Harke.
A Funeral Service for Adeline will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 323 N. Morrison St., Appleton. Friends may visit directly at the church on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Adeline's name for St. Paul Lutheran Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Rennes Health Care Center and Fresenius Dialysis Center for the compassionate care shown to Adeline.
