- Louis (Louie) DeGroot, 83, passed away on June 6, 2010, in Sun City, Ariz. He was laid to eternal rest on June 10, 2010, in Mesa, Ariz., after a funeral service on June 9, in Sun City West, Ariz.
Louis was born on Sept. 21, 1926, in Wausaukee, Wis., to Cornelius and Elizabeth DeGroot. He lived there 15 years until he moved to Oconto, to live with his brother. He had a total of 11 brothers and sisters. He was in the U.S. Navy and also attended St. Norbert College in De Pere, where he received his degree in Economics in 1949.
Louie married Elizabeth (Bette) Ellis in 1949. They have five children, Nona Gleason, Waukesha; Jeff DeGroot, Green Bay; Bob DeGroot, Green Bay; Janine (Mark) Beauchaine, Iola; Lisa (Brad) Collar, Shiocton. Louie's grandchildren are, Danielle (Larry) Smith, Waukesha; Denise (Rob) Hellman, Waukesha; Adam Collar, Appleton; Craig Collar, Shiocton; Shawn Beauchaine, Madison; Marisa Beauchaine, Milwaukee; Dan Beauchaine, Eau Claire. His great-grandchildren are Parker, Cambelle, and Tanner Hellman, Waukesha; and Kenna and Kayla Smith, Waukesha.
Louie was preceded in death by his wife, Bette in 2006; his parents; his sisters, Martha Kersten, Agnes DeGroot, Irene DeGroot, Eleanor DeGroot; his brothers, Art DeGroot, Clarence DeGroot, Andrew DeGroot, Leonard DeGroot, Bernard DeGroot, and Donald DeGroot. He is survived by one sister, Rosanne Pantuso, Marinette; several sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews; and his wife of three years, Sylvia Burkholder, Arizona.
Louie retired from State Farm Insurance in 1988, after living in Green Bay since 1970. He enjoyed golfing, boating, dancing, playing cards including bridge, the Packers, traveling, and having fun.
Memorial service in celebration of Louie's life will be Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Bernard's Catholic Parish in Green Bay, with Father Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Mass at 11 a.m., and luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be forwarded to St. Norbert's College in De Pere.
