Don married Genevieve Calaway on April 7, 1951, at St. Boniface Church in De Pere, WI. He served in the Navy from 1946-1948. After his service he attended St. Norbert College for two years and reenlisted in the Navy in 1950, to serve his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
On February 1, 1953, Don was hired by the Brown County Sheriff's Department as a Police Officer. After several years in this role he was proudly promoted to Captain and was well respected. He retired from the B.C.S.D. on May 7, 1984.
Don was loved by his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an excellent provider for his family and an extremely well-liked and respected member of the community, known for his strong Catholic faith and giving heart.
Don had a deep connection with nature and the outdoors. To relax he spent time on his property near Lake Noquebay, in Crivitz, WI, where he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and camping. Don had a tremendous love for gardening, always growing his favorites: tomatoes, marigolds and geraniums.
Don also had a keen interest in carpentry, heavy machinery and trucks which he credited to his uncle, father and grandfather. These interests led to his handyman skills which allowed him to fix just about anything. He was also a loyal Packer fan and enjoyed watching his all-time favorite player, Brett Favre.
