    • Lucille M. Schroeder, nee Merkel, age 97, passed away at St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna on Sunday, April 15, 2012. She was born on November 3, 1914 in the Town of Greenville, the daughter of the late Joseph and Emilie (Bolte) Merkel. On February 23, 1935 she married Norbert Schroeder. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1984. Lucille farmed with Norbert for 34 years in the Town of Freedom and then moved to Appleton. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to Brewers games, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

      Lucille is survived by three children: Lois Winters of Alamo, TX, Doris (Roger) Van Beek of Kaukauna, and William (Darlene) Schroeder of Freedom; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; sister, Eleanor Buss of Appleton; nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert; two grandsons: Roland Van Beek and David Schroeder; son-in-law, William Winters; sisters: Marcella Schuh and Evelyn Muenster; 13 brothers-in-law; and nine sisters-in-law.

      The funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at ST. LUKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 705 Greenfield St., Little Chute with Rev. Ronald Szep officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
