Diane M. (Mauthe) Bates-Schmit, passed away at the age of 72 on February 25, 2023.
Diane was born on August 24, 1950 in Appleton, WI to Lawrence and Phyllis (Van Vreede) Mauthe.
She grew up in Hilbert, WI and graduated from Hilbert High School in 1968.
Diane was united in marriage to Steven Schmit on March 10, 1988. Together they raised 4 children, Maria, Stephanie, Melissa, and Carrie. She worked at WE Energies for over 40 years until she retired in 2010. She was involved with her church (St. Therese) for many years. She enjoyed camping and looked forward to her yearly trips to Bay Shore, watching Carrie play sports, morning card games with her friends at Subway, Monday night dinners with her and Carrie's friends, gardening, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Maria (Donald) Marquissee, Stephanie (Craig) Webb, Carrie Schmit, Melissa Schmit, her siblings, Paula (Ken) Skitch, Pauline Mauthe, David (Tracie) Mauthe, her grandchildren, Ashley (Adam), Alex (Cassandra), Zachary (Lisa), Sonya (Dontonio), Mercedes, Taylor (Vlad), Liv, Michael, Olivia, Owen and Sean, her great grandchildren, Aleigha, Amiyah, Aubriella, Romeo, Giovanni, Legend, Lily, Aria, Luciano, Myliana, Maelee, David, Armani and Ralph (Theresa) Bates, father of Maria and Stephanie.
Diane was preceeded in death by her parents Lawrence and Phyllis Mauthe, her huscband Steven Schmit, her sister Jane (Harvey) Schaefer, her brother Mark Mauthe, her son-in-law David Marquissee, and her grandson Ross Marquissee.
The family would like to thank the emergency staff as well as the cardiac staff at St. Elizabeth's hospital.
A celebration of life will be held at Wichman Funeral Home in Appleton, WI (537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, WI 54911) on Saturday, March 4th. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm with the Celebration of Life to follow. |
