    • Elsie Mae Mitchell (nee Vanden Heuvel)

      Age 80, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2016. Elsie was born on January 11, 1936 to the late Henry and Alvina (Hackl) Vanden Heuvel. She grew up on the family farm in rural Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School. On September 2, 1957, she married Boniface (Barney) Mitchell at St. John Catholic Church in Seymour.

      Elsie and Barney settled in the Mackville community and together raised five daughters. She was an active member of St. Edward Parish until moving to Combined Locks in 1994. Elsie enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening, and was very generous with her time and talents. She sewed over 300 baptismal gowns for St. Paul Parish and spent many Tuesdays with the ladies of St. Paul sewing quilts for the missions. Elsie and Barney traveled to many destinations including Alaska, Hawaii and Hong Kong. She loved the family reunions each summer as well as celebrating the holidays with family.

      She is survived by her husband, Barney, and her five daughters and their husbands: Linda & Dan Bubolz, Mary & Dan Peterson, Bonnie & Wayne Byrum, Kim & Tom Nelson, and Barb & Jeff Kilsdonk; eight grandchildren and their spouses: Sarah Barbian, Jason & Krystal Bubolz, David & Crystal Byrum, Kevin Byrum & special friend Ally Bytell, Kirschen Stewart, Remmey Nelson, Trisha Kilsdonk & fiancé Corey Munsch, and Carissa Kilsdonk; and six great grandchildren: Wyatt, Blake, Autumn, Peyton, Mack, Elly, and two on the way.

      She is further survived by two siblings and their spouses: Don & Rosemary Vanden Heuvel and Mary Ann & John Erickson; sister-in-law Dorothy Vanden Heuvel; and Barney's family: Marion Biesterveld, Barb Vander Loop, Matt & Judy Mitchell, Dot Mitchell, and Larry & Linda Mitchell.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Barney's parents Peter & Ella Mitchell; her sister Rita Biese; her brothers Henry and Michael Vanden Heuvel; brothers and sisters in law: Elzer Biese, Kathleen Vanden Heuvel, Jack Ebben, Edna Mitchell, Rita Mitchell, Leo & Kathy Mitchell, Virg Biesterveld, Gene Vander Loop; son-in-law Steve Miller; and grandson Lee Nelson.

      A Mass of Resurrection for Elsie will be on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 E. Wallace St., Combined Locks. Fr. Andrew Kysely celebrant. Family and friends may gather Wednesday, November 2, at the Funeral Home, from 5 to 7 pm, with a prayer vigil at 7 pm. Visitation also on Thursday at the Church from 9 am until time of Mass.

      Elsie was a very giving person and in accordance with her wishes, her body will be donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee for medical education and research.

      The family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul Hospice for their compassionate care of Elsie.
