    • Tennessen, Mary R.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 8:30 pm the Lord called Mary Tennessen to his heavenly home and the angels guided her. She was born on March 10, 1943 to the late Elmer and Geraldine (Evers) Theunis. On June 11, 1963 she married Donald "Bert" Tennessen at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown. They just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Since childhood, Mary had excelled in typing, taking first and second place in the statewide typing and spelling contest two years in a row at 135 wpm! In 1962, she was homecoming queen. Mary started her career as a secretary at Thilmany and St. Elizabeth Hospital. After years of hard work, Mary and Donald "Bert" started their own business, Concrete Cutters, Inc. which they owned and operated for 34 years. She also served on many city committees and was active within the community and volunteered at Holy Cross Parish office.

Mary enjoyed listening to and playing music, especially her accordion, hum strum and tambourine. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling on leagues and was proud of her 300 games. Mary was a social person and enjoyed playing cards with friends and getting together with her St. Elizabeth Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed playing sports in her childhood with family on the Wrightstown family farm and was an avid Packer, Brewer and Wisconsin Badger fan. Mary cherished the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren, especially the family trips to Shawano Lake.

Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bert; son, Thomas (Julie) Tennessen and Julie's daughter, Chloe; son, Ron (Jennifer) Tennessen and their children, Prestin and Spencer; daughter, Lori (Dale) Zuleger and their children, Stephanie and Danielle; daughter Lisa "Leigh" (Rick) Zuehl and their children, Kaitlyn and Mackenzie; brother, Carl (Sharon) Theunis; sisters, Donna (Ron) Van Lanen, Lou Ann (Carl) Zeamer and Karen (Gary) Tetzlaff; sisters-in-law, Joan Ann (Gary) Dollevoet, Rose Ann Tennessen and Blanche (Tennessen) Meyer; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Bert's parents, Lawrence and Mary Tennessen; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Tennessen.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, from 4 pm to the time of vigil service at 7 pm at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute). Visitation will continue on Tuesday, June 23, from 10 am to the time of Funeral Mass at 11 am at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH (301 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna). Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will be officiating. Committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Catholic School System. To sign the guestbook, please visit oconnellfh.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. Flanagan and Dr. Goggins as well as the staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital and St. Paul Home for their compassionate care given to Mary. Thanks to Father Jack Mullarkey for 21 years at Holy Cross Parish. They would also like to thank family and friends, especially Rev. Thomas Pomeroy, who visited with Mary and gave her strength and spiritual empowerment.
