    • A GOOD WOMAN IS CALLED
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      The passing of MRS. MARY A HARLOW, whose death occurred at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laughrin in the town of Rantoul on Saturday evening, April 10, caused universal sorrow, not only in Calumet County where she was long and favorably known but in many section of Wisconsin where friends reside. A year ago she was quite ill but recovered from the attack and during the past year had enjoyed excellent health. Her daughter, Mrs. Frank Laughrin had been ill for some ten weeks and she went to Rantoul to assist in caring for her on April 3rd and while there she herself, was taken ill. On Thursday Mrs. Harlow seemed to improve and hopes were entertained for her recovery, but pneumonia set in and she failed rapidly until the final summons came.
      Mary Ann Burke, daughter of John and Mary Burke, was born in Pennsylvania in 1848. When she was three years old her parents came west to Wisconsin and located in the town of Russell, Sheboygan County, where they remained until the early sixties when her parents purchased 160 acres of land a half mile south of the village of Hilbert in the towns of Rantoul and Woodville. She was married at St. Augustine’s church in Chilton on Feb. 11, 1873, to Timothy Harlow of Rantoul and they started housekeeping on the late C. Mulcahy place while a home was being built on the farm owned by Mr. Harlow in Rantoul. Her husband died on Sept. 10, 1910 and with the aid of her sons she continued to operate the farm until 1920 when it was disposed of and she purchased a residence on Reid street and moved to this city.
      One had only to know Mrs. Harlow to love and respect her. She possessed all the virtues of a good Christian woman and her faults, if indeed she had any, were so trivial that they were unknown to her friends. Her outstanding traits of character were an unswerving integrity, loyalty and a heart responsive to the joys and sorrows of those she knew. Such a life could not fail to exert an influence for good.
      The funeral was held from St. Augustine’s church, Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. J. E. Meagher, assisted by Rev. Fr. J. Heier of Hilbert as deacon and Rev. A. Pritzl of St. Mary’s as sub-deacon.
      She is survived by four sons, James, Joseph, Harry of Chilton and Ray of Manitowoc, four daughters, Mrs. Frank Laughrin of Rantoul, Mrs. John Laughrin, Mrs. Jos. McHugh of Chilton and Mrs. A. Stoecker of Milwaukee. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Michael Connelly of Milwaukee, Mrs. M. Considine of Escanaba and Mrs. John Keagal of Menasha.
