- Appleton Man Killed when Car
Crashes into Tree
Herman Griesbach, 39, Dies Instantly,
Lost Control of Automobile
Herman Griesbach, 39, 1815 N. Superior Street, was killed instantly when he lost control of his car and hit a tree on Highway 76, about a mile northeast of the 76-10 intersection at 8:50 last night, according to Sheriff Lyman B. Clark. The traffic death was the fourteenth of the year in Outagamie county.
Griesbach, who was not married, suffered a skull fracture, broken leg and other injuries.
Leslie Holzer, county coroner, said today no inquest will be held.
Griesbach was traveling southeast on 76 when his car apparently moved off the concrete and went out of control, the sheriff said. The car went down into the west ditch and then careened across the pavement, traveled 130 yards and then crashed into a big tree. One of the front wheels was jammed back into the front seat, the sheriff said.
Born in the town of Center Sept. 21, 1907, Griesbach, who was a cabbage buyer for the last 12 years, had lived in the town of Grand Chute for ten years and in Appleton for the last four years.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning at St. Therese Catholic Church, the cortege forming at the Wichmann Funeral Home at 9 o'clock. The Rev. M. A. Hauch, pastor, will be in charge and burial will be in St. Edward Catholic cemetery, town of Mackville. Friends may call after 7 o'clock tonight at the funeral home where the rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight and at 8:30 Friday night.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Griesbach, Appleton; two brothers, Peter and Joseph, route 2, Appleton; and a sister, Sister M. Lelia, Kiel.
