Romenesko, Eugene J.
Eugene J. Romenesko, 76, Little Chute, was called to the Lord Saturday, March 14, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family following a brief, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Little Chute, on Aug. 2, 1932, to the late Leonard and Geraldine (Peeters) Romenesko. On Feb. 6, 1952, Eugene married the love of his life and inseparable partner, Jane Frances Smits, at Holy Name Parish in Kimberly. In 1953, he started his own construction business, Gene Romenesko Construction, Inc. Gene was also a successful developer and partner in Imperial Builders. Later on he established Atlas Trucking Company and was involved in numerous other business ventures. He was active in his community, as a member of the Little Chute Kiwanis Club, president of the Fox Valley Golf Club, President of the Holy Name School Board and head of the Finance Committee at St. John Nepomucene Parish, where he was a member. Gene was also a past President and 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #4489. He sat on the Board of Directors for Kimberly State Bank and Associated Bank.
Dad was truly successful in everything he put his mind to, passing on his strong work ethic to his children. Yet throughout his years of business success, he never forgot the importance of faith, family and friends. Dad considered spending time with family his greatest treasure. He always made time for them and was willing to share his knowledge of business with his brothers and sons. Dad and mom for many years enjoyed attending together their children and grandchildren's sporting events and activities, always staying until the end to provide a word of encouragement and a dollar for support. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing (especially his annual trip with friends to Lac Vieux Desert), duck hunting and relaxing at cottages on Lake Alpine and Lake Poygan as well as wintering in Venice, Fla.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane; nine of their 11 children, Pat (Marv) Janssen, Little Chute; Mike (Gail), Little Chute; Jerry (Bev), Kimberly; Tom (Carol), Kaukauna; Jack (Sandy), Kaukauna; Jill (Ron) Tiedt, Little Chute; Dan (Mary), Little Chute; Dave (Kim), Little Chute; and Jan (Troy) Hietpas, Little Chute; daughter-in-law, Polly Romenesko, Kaukauna; 31 grandchildren, Shawna (Kevin) Kerrigan, Travis (Sarah), Jessica and Aaron (Becky) Janssen, Brittany, Brooke, Chelsea, Blake, Eric, Scott, Tami, Matt, Stacey, Amy, Carly and Natalie Romenesko, Dacia (Eric) Hermes, Melissa, Tricia and Patrick Tiedt, Megan, Emily, Michael, Tyler (Lisa), Marki, Kirsti, Katie, Nicholas and Melani Romenesko, Derek and Samuel Hietpas; three great-grandchildren, Caden and Jacob Kerrigan, Mara Janssen; brothers and sisters, Don (Barb), Carol Tourville, Mary (Don) Mahn, Jim (Sue), Alice (Roger) Wynboom and Carl (Alice); and brothers and sisters-in-law, Liz Smits, Carol (Hank) Wulterkens, Joyce (Jim) Williams, Phyllis Smits, Ken (Jan) Smits and Florian (Grace) Smits.
