Alma Margaret (VanAsten) Vanevenhoven was born on March 20, 1925. She is the daughter of the late Henry and Caroline (Daul) VanAsten. Alma passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 20, 2022, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

She graduated from St. Nicholas grade school and attended Freedom High School. She married Orville on October 23, 1947, at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom. They were married 63 years.

Alma was always proud of her beautiful flowers and big garden. She enjoyed sewing, canning, card playing, traveling and being with her family. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her pride and joy. Alma, along with her husband Orville owned and operated Vanevenhoven’s Dairy. She was a quiet person with a strong faith. She was always close to her rosary and prayer book.

She is survived by her three daughters and five sons: Joyce (Pete) VanGroll, Wayne (Diane) Vanevenhoven, Leon Vanevenhoven, Dennis Vanevenhoven, Don (Judy) Vanevenhoven, Jane (Jim) Heiting, Bill (Sue) Vanevenhoven, and Joan (Jeff) Rueden. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren and by her sister-in-law Marian VanAsten.

Along with her parents, Alma is preceded in death by her husband Orville in 2011; one great-grandson Grant; her siblings: Blance (Ed) VanHandel, Martin (Josephine) VanAsten, Bill VanAsten, Mary (Leo) VanderHeiden, Josephine (Leo) Micke, Rose (Joe) VanderHeiden, and two infant brothers: Raymond and Clarence. Also preceding Alma in death were her father and mother-in-law: John and Hattie (Verbeten) Vanevenhoven; in-laws: Angeline (Bill) VandenHeuvel, Ervin (Martha) Vanevenhoven, Henry (Harriet) Vanevenhoven, Arthur (Nellie) Vanevenhoven, Lillian (Martin) Thyssen, Howard Vanevenhoven, Francis (Bill) Vissers, Marion (Nick) Kavanaugh, Ray (Rita) Vanevenhoven, Ralph (Angeline) Vanevenhoven, Evelyn (Jim) Hermes and infant sister Rosemary.

Visitation for Alma will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, WI 54130, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Holy Cross Catholic Parish in Kaukauna.

Our family would like to extend gratitude to Drs. Jack Meyer and Jessica Peterson and the care and compassion from Compassus staff for their exceptional care.

Mom, by your example, you have taught us the value of a strong work ethic, strength in our faith, and love of our Lord Jesus. You are with Dad now and one day we will be together again
