- BEAVER DAM - William G. Kamps, age 76, of Beaver Dam, died on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at University Hospital in Madison. Bill was born on July 11, 1927, in Appleton, to Gebhardt and Margaret (nee Maurer) Kamps. He was married to Alice E. Mullen on Sept. 2, 1950, in Appleton. Bill graduated from Appleton High School in 1945, and attended college at St. Mary's University, in San Antonio, Texas. Bill started his career in the paper industry with Marathon/American Can and progressed through various marketing assignments that took the family to Neenah, Cincinnati, Ohio, and New York City, N.Y. In 1972, Bill and Joe Lawlor Sr., founded K&L Services, Inc., a paper converting company located in Beaver Dam. Bill enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, sheepshead, gin and cribbage. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Beaver Dam, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and Old Hickory Golf Club. Bill is survived by his wife, Alice, of Beaver Dam; a daughter, Mary (Donald) Birmingham of Green Bay; four sons, Paul (Alison) Kamps of Oregon, James Kamps of Fond du Lac, Michael (Deb) Kamps of Beaver Dam, and Peter (Giniene) Kamps of Hortonville; three sisters, Elizabeth (Victor) Schmidt of Sun Prairie, Ruth Stier of Menasha, Ethel O'Brien of Appleton; and a brother, John (Mary) Kamps of Clearwater, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces; nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Joseph; three brothers; and two sisters. A mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 25, 2004, at 11 a.m. at ST. PETERS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Father William Key officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 25, 2004, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Beaver Dam. Burial of Bill's cremains will take place at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CEMETERY in Appleton.
