- Myron P. Reiland, age 89, of Greenville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2011, while stacking wood at his home. He was born on May 3, 1922, in Mackville, son of the late George and Dehlia (Hofacker) Reiland. On May 8, 1943, he married Lola Mae Krause in Hortonville. Myron's hobby, and some would say his "passion", was his love of horses. He was a member of the Wisconsin Horse Pullers Association for 58 years and spent much of his life working Belgium Draft Horses to compete in pulling contests. His house was peppered with trophies and plaques from contests he participated in. His greatest achievement was winning the National Championship two times in 1958 and 1971. If you visited him you could always be assured of getting a tour of the horse barn, followed by an engaging conversation of Duke & Jim's current pulling status. The grandchildren always knew where the candy bars could be found in the tack room's refrigerator, and the adults a treat of sorts as well. His love of horses and the sport were passed on to several sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When his body became too old to hitch a team of horses, he was happy to help his sons continue the tradition or to just talk "horse". Myron was a humble farmer for almost 70 years, and it was a family affair. But he always took time on Sundays to go to church and sometimes take his 8 children for ice cream. Later on in his life, he was assisted by sons and daughters and grandchildren to milk cows and make hay. The farm was home for many and is where Myron lived until his last day. Myron loved Christmas. Every year he would enjoy dressing up as St. Nicholas to excite his children and grandchildren. It is now fitting that he was peacefully taken to our Saviour, at this, his favorite time of year.
He is survived by his wife Lola Mae; three daughters, Ann (Cyril) Schmidt, Shiocton; Donna (Tim) Wunderlich, Hortonville; Lori (Dave) Henning, Seymour; four sons: James Reiland, Appleton; Randy Reiland, Hortonville, Jerry (Sandie) Reiland, Seymour; Ken Reiland, Hortonville. Two sisters, Jeanie Beschta, Black Creek and Dolly Rougeogu, Milwaukee. Myron is further survived by fourteen grandchildren, Bob Reiland, Mike (Pam) Reiland, Wendy Reiland, Kelly Reiland, Brenda (Dale) Maass, Paula (Rod) Van Straten, Cory (Julie) Wunderlich, Stacy (Dave) Ebben, Sara (Luke) Peeters, Kristy (Randy) Young, Travis Reiland, Jesse Reiland, Brad Henning, Mindy Henning and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, three sisters, Arlywene Otto, Angeline Leach, and Delorous Bryce, six brothers, Ronnie, Cliff, Floyd, Merlin, George Jr., and Robert, two grandchildren, Jamie Reiland and Brian Schmidt.
The funeral mass for Myron will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2011 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Hortonville with Rev. Msgr. James Feely and Parish Director Greg Layton officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Stephensville. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Myron; husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend - you will be forever missed. Happy Trails until we meet again.
