      Brown Sr., Sheldon K. (Shelly)


      Sheldon K. Brown Sr. (Shelly), Black Creek, age 75, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. He was born in the Town of Freedom on June 28, 1934, son of Ethel (Voight) Brown and the late Kenneth Brown. He graduated from Freedom High School, and on September 13, 1958, he married Violet Felton. He retired from Wisconsin Electric in 1994. In 1999, he was named Black Creek's Outstanding Citizen of the Year in which he was recognized for organizing the Babe Ruth baseball league and the Babe Ruth baseball state tournament. He was named "Backer of the Year" by Seymour "S" Club and was a member of the Seymour Athletic Booster Club. He was a long time active member and office holder of the Lions Club where he received the highest form of recognition from the Lions Club, "The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award." He was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ and has been an officer of the Church Council. In the past, he was on various committees, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years, advised the youth fellowship group, had been an active choir member and member of the dartball team. With his white beard, red suit and ho ho ho's, Shelly made the perfect Santa Claus. At Christmas time, he donned the suit and rang the bell for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed activities with his family such as: hunting, traveling (to 49 of the 50 states), fishing, flashlight farming, auctions and singing in Ecumenical choir. He also enjoyed attending events, supporting his children and grandchildren.

      He is survived by his mother Ethel (Voight) Brown, Seymour; his wife of 50 years Violet (Felton) Brown, Black Creek; two sons: Sheldon Jr. "Chip" (Jenny) Brown, Kaukauna; Robert "Bob" (Vickie) Brown, Seymour; two daughters: Brenda (John) Weber, Kaukauna; Bonnie (Gary) Vander Linden, Black Creek; special family member Mary Ann (Glenn) Gutknecht, Greenville; grandchildren: Heidi, Jennifer (Fiancee David), Elizabeth, Diana (Carlos), Holly, Joshua, Emily, Brooke, Morgan and Bryce. He is further survived by six brothers and sisters: Janet Rohm, Appleton; Jeanne (Bob) Mc Andrew, Norwalk, CT; Victor (Marlene) Brown, Seymour; Joyce Van Wychen, Freedom; Kenneth "Bud" (Nancy) Brown, Weyauwega; and Bill (Sally) Brown, Neenah; his wife's family: Mike (Donna) Felton, Esther (Jim) Zimmer, Betty Sears and Roy Felton.

      He was preceded in death by his father, father and mother-in-law Joseph and Anna Felton, a sister-in-law Helen Halbach, two brothers-in-law: Glen Rohm and David Sears; God child Diane Sears.

      Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. John's United Church of Christ, Black Creek on Friday, July 3, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Reverend Don Baumann officiating.       You were a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Giving and patient and stubborn at times. A collector of auction treasures and remembered for the words "Going, going gone!"
