      Arthur J. Gerl Art 246 W. Eighth St., Appleton

      Age 75, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994 at Franciscan Care Center following a brief illness. He was born May 7, 1919 in Black Creek to the late Arthur and Theresa (Fries) Gerl. Art married the former LaVerne Edler on Feb. 10, 1947 at Holy Name Cathedral, Sheboygan, by the late Father Charles Fredericks. They celebrated 47 years of marriage. Art was a retired salesman for the H.C. Prange Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy for 4 1/2 years. He was a member of American Legion Johnsonton-Blessman Post No. 38, Appleton. Art was a very proud Navy man who enjoyed telling stories about his years in the service. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; three sisters, Jean Lindahl, Naples, Fla., Audrey Johnson, Shiocton, Claudia (Allan) Vogel-Gray, Appleton; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rosalind; and several brothers-in-law. Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, 11 a.m. St. Mary's Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., with Father Michael O'Rourke officiating, with entombment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Wichmann Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
