Fries, Merlin H. "Bud" Fremont, Wisconsin Merlin H. Fries, age 81, died Friday morning, February 6, 2004 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on November 30, 1922 in Black Creek, WI; the son of the late Jacob and Pauline (Krause) Fries. Merlin served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. On February 8, 1946, Merlin married Viola Kuklinski in Evanston, IL. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on Sunday, February 8, 2004. Merlin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zittau. He worked at P.H. Glatfelter for 37 years; retiring in 1985. Merlin enjoyed being outside, fishing and doing carpentry work. Survivors include his wife, Viola; a son, Steven (Laura) Fries, Manitowoc; two daughters: Lori (Greg) Marx, Appleton; LynLee (fiance Wayne J. Crosby) Fries, Appleton; seven grandchildren: Stacey (Bret) Kuether, Jacob Fries, Margaret Fries, Kyle and Kelsey Marx, Stephan and Evan Baumier. Merlin was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyril and Lyle; and a sister, Phyllis. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9077 North Rd. in Zittau, WI at 2 p.m. Pastor Timothy Routh will officiate. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Sunday from noon until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
