- Christiaanse, Martin
Martin Christiaanse, of Combined Locks, WI, formerly of Zuilen, the Netherlands, died peacefully Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Appleton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on March 5, 1926 in the Netherlands. He was the son of the late Martines Lenonardus Christiaanse and Engelina Kemphuis. Martin married Willy Kerkhof of Combined Locks, WI on March 11, 1994.
Martin was a veteran who served in the East Dutch Indies and the Netherlands. He worked for the Government Utility Company in Holland for 40 years. In his younger years, Martin and his first wife, Richarda Hilhorst, enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards. Martin had no children from his first marriage but inherited a family complete to great grandchildren when he married Willy Kerkhof.
He is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina Willy, and her children -- Miranda (Wayne) Case of Elkhorn, Bill (Ann) Kerkhof of Kimberly, John (Kari) Kerkhof of Darboy; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Nel Groenestein, Will (Nol) Appelhof, Bippi Mosterd, Corrie (Ton) and brother-in-law Wim (Jopie) Hilhorst. Martin is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martines Leonardus Christiaanse and Engelina Kemphuis, and first wife, Richarda, his mother-in-law, Grady Hilhorst, along with his step brothers, Dorus (Stien) Kerkhof, Bertus (Ann) Kerkhof, Wim (Anny) Kerkhof; Bram (Toos) Kerkhof, Steve (Lyda) Kerkhof, Pete Kerkhof and two step sisters, Marie (Ayes) Hemmingo and Riek (Renus) Bosman.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday July 30, 2008 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH (410 Wallace St. Combined Locks). Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service with Father James Lucas and Father Robert Vandenberg officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
