- De Groot, Rosella P.
Rosella (Sally) De Groot was born on April 7, 1918, in LeRoy, WI; she married Robert De Groot on October 6, 1943. Sally and Robert had five children. Three survive: Gemma (Doug) Fickess, Fulton, MO; Pauline Beaty, Roy, UT; and Mary De Groot, Madison, WI. Sally was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1962, her son Peter in 2002 (survived by her loving daughter-in-law Corinne De Groot) and daughter Wanda Warner, (survived by her loving son-in-law Richard Warner), in 2011. Sally is also survived by five grandchildren: Rob De Groot (Julia) of New London, Brian De Groot of New London, Aaron Page of Fulton, MO, Brad Warnock (Sherri) of Germany, and Andrew Warner (Kelly) of New York City; five great grandchildren Amanda Ludwig, Rylee and Kaden Page, Gwen Sturgis, and James Warner, and two great-great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Seth Ludwig.
Rosella was one of thirteen children born to Henry and Magdelene Eilbes. Three siblings survive--Jerry (Pat) Eilbes, of Brownsville, Colletta Smith of Lake Mills, and Valeria Straub of Campbellsport. She was preceded in death by her siblings Roman, Richard, Robert, Melvin, Ambrose, Alvin, Edward, Armella, and Grace.
Sally was a life-long homemaker who loved taking care of her family; she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and the "greats."
She loved gardening, and was widely known and praised for her beautiful roses. Sally took her roses to many in the neighborhood who needed comforting, a smile, or just a friend.
As was typical of many females of her generation, Sally did not have a formal education past the eighth grade. So it was with great pride that she announced a few years ago that she had completed her GED. She never told anyone she was doing this, but we were thrilled for her, and proud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 11, 2014 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N McDonald, Appleton, with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 until 10:45 AM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff of both Living Tree Estates of Greenville, and Southern Care Hospice for their excellent care of Sally these last few years, and to thank Sally's daughter-in-law Corinne De Groot for providing the care of a daughter many times over.
Memorials in Sally's name can be made to St. Thomas More, to the Living Tree Estates, or to the charity of one's choice .
