Steers, Richard Richard Steers, Son, Brother, Uncle, Naval Officer, Construction Worker, Friend. Born August 15, 1923, in Kimberly, WI., and died January 9, 2008, at Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton, at the age of 84. Richard was the first born son to Henry and Agnes Steers. Richard lived in Kimberly until he joined the Navy. He retired from the Navy after 20 years.

Richard is survived by his sisters, Gertrude Hurst, and Bernice (Jerry) Quella; a brother Ron (Joyce) Steers; a sister in law, Ingrid Steers, and a brother in law, Robert Kiel as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Anna Mae Hubers and Phyliss Kiel, a brother, Roger Steers; brothers in law, Frank Hubers and Cletus Hurst; nephews, Robert Kiel Jr., Rene Steers, Caleb Aschbacher, and a niece Jacqueline Quella.

Richard was a private man, with a dry sense of humor and a great ability for story telling. After he retired from the Navy, he spent some time working with his sister Bernice (Jerry) Quella at Q's Quarters in Elkhart Lake, but eventually made his home with his sister, Phyliss (Robert) Keil in Kimberly. He worked construction during these years and spent his winters in Lakeland, Florida.

Richard was a quiet but supportive brother and uncle to Phyliss and Robert and their children, Robert Jr., Beth, Russ and Barb, during their formative years. He was well known in the Fox Valley area and had many friends both in this area and in Florida.

Richard was a very intelligent man who enjoyed lively discussions about politics throughout his life. He had a passion for horse and dog racing and he also enjoyed his time at the casinos. He was very fond of the game Jai-Alai in Florida.

Richard eventually succumbed to macular degeneration, which affected his ability to drive, and then, after suffering several strokes, moved to Colony Oaks Care Center. He maintained his wry sense of humor throughout.

Richard would like to thank Raymond Hubers for keeping his affairs in order.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Colony Oaks Care Center.

He expressed that there not be any services. He prefers you to go out and do a good deed in his memory.
